OPC UA IoT Connector

The OAS OPC UA Connector provides the client functionality needed to connect local or remote OPC UA servers with SCADA systems, historians, databases, HMIs, and enterprise applications. This scalable OPC UA client software automatically browses each server’s address space and generates OAS tags, simplifying configuration for controls engineers, automation engineers, systems integrators, and industrial software developers.

Connect to IoT Data Sources with OPC UA

Use the OAS OPC UA Connector to read and write data across your industrial environment. Acting as an OPC UA client, OAS can connect to OPC UA servers running on PLCs, controllers, SCADA platforms, and other industrial systems. It can then route that data to databases, visualization tools, cloud platforms, APIs, and other connected applications.

This provides a central gateway for integrating OPC UA data across LAN, WAN, and Internet-based architectures without building and maintaining a custom OPC client for every destination.

Key Features & Benefits

1-Click Access to Data

Save time with One Click OPC UA. This feature extracts all available variables directly from each OPC UA server in seconds. It’s a simple way to automate tag creation and streamline your setup using a trusted OPC UA connector.

Reliability

Customize connection and transaction timeout parameters for optimal performance. In the event of a network failure, automated recovery features and a backup controller keep your system running smoothly. This is what makes the gateway OPC UA setup so dependable.

Transaction Recording

Enable communication logging to capture raw data from OPC UA servers. These logs help you monitor system behavior and troubleshoot with greater accuracy, making your OPC UA IoT setup even stronger.

High-Speed Performance

With parallel processing, each OPC UA server can handle high levels of data throughput at up to 1,000,000 tags per server. The result is a high-performance OPC UA gateway that keeps up with real-time demands.

Data Accuracy

Data from your controllers is processed in the order it’s received, not just the latest value. This first-in, first-out method ensures that nothing gets lost and your OPC IoT environment stays accurate and complete.

Common Use Cases

Log OPC UA Data to Databases and CSV Files

Use the OAS Data Historian to log data from OPC UA servers into various databases, including SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and others. This logging can be triggered by changes in the data, specific events, or continuously. The system also supports logging high-speed buffered data from a controller. Learn more.

Transfer OPC UA Data

Transfer data to and from OPC UA servers and various Industry 4.0 data sources using the Data Route feature. Continuous or event-driven transfers are supported over your local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), or the Internet. Learn more.

OPC UA User Interface

Create HMIs using the drag-and-drop UIEngine with no coding needed. You can build Web HMI, WinForm, and WPF interfaces, or integrate with legacy apps using the .NET Data Connector and REST API. This helps visualize your OPC UA IoT data in ways that make sense for your team. Learn more about the UIEngine

OPC UA Client FAQs

What is an OPC UA client?

An OPC UA client is software that initiates a connection with an OPC UA server to browse its address space, subscribe to data changes, read values, and—when permissions allow—write values. OAS functions as an OPC UA client when it connects to OPC UA servers and brings their data into the OAS Platform for logging, visualization, routing, calculations, or integration with other systems.

What is the difference between an OPC UA client and an OPC UA server?

An OPC UA server exposes an address space containing tags, variables, objects, and related services. An OPC UA client connects to the server and requests or subscribes to that information. OAS can perform both roles: it can connect to OPC UA servers as a client and make OAS tag data available to authorized third-party OPC UA clients through its built-in server functionality.

How many OPC UA servers can OAS connect to simultaneously?

OAS can maintain simultaneous connections to multiple OPC UA servers by configuring a separate driver interface for each server. Supported scale depends on factors such as tag counts, update rates, data-processing requirements, and the resources available to the OAS Engine. Contact OAS to validate sizing for deployments requiring a specific number of concurrent server connections.

What databases can OAS log OPC UA data to?

The OAS OPC UA Historian can log OPC UA data to MS SQL Server, SQL Azure, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, Cassandra, SQLite, InfluxDB, Amazon Aurora, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, Google Firebase, MS Access on Windows, and CSV files. This allows the same OPC UA client software to support relational, time-series, cloud, and file-based storage requirements.
